What you’ll work on

  • Low-speed balance and clutch/throttle finesse
  • Tight U-turns and figure-8s
  • Emergency braking, including braking while turning
  • Brake/swerve combinations and obstacle avoidance
  • How to pick up a dropped motorcycle safely

Who it’s for

Class 6 riders, returning riders, and licensed riders who want a fast, practical tune-up to boost confidence, control, and reaction time.

Format

6 hours on the range with progressive real-world drills and individual coaching.

Day plan

10am start, 1pm lunch break, 4pm finish. We run rain or shine.

What to bring

  • Your motorcycle — no excessively loud exhausts
  • Boots over the ankle
  • Gloves, helmet, eye protection, and protective jacket
  • Water, snacks, and weather-appropriate layers

No bike?

IslandRider alumni may rent a school motorcycle for +$50/day with advance notice.

Your coach

John Buddo is a veteran trainer and motorcyclist. He completed the Oregon “Ride Like a Cop” program in 2017, finishing the qualifier 40 seconds under the police cutoff.

Advanced Course FAQs

Do I need my own bike?

Yes. Bring your motorcycle. No excessively loud exhausts. Alumni may request a school bike rental for +$50/day with advance notice.

What if it rains?

We run rain or shine. Wet-weather technique is a key part of real-world riding, so bring appropriate gear.

What skill level is expected?

You should hold a Class 6 and be comfortable at low speeds. Drills are matched to rider ability so you are challenged safely.

What should I wear?

Boots over the ankle, gloves, helmet/eye protection, and a protective jacket. Dress in layers.

Can I transfer if I can’t make it?
